About Your Guide

Discover Captain Tom, an authentic Orange Beach native with more than four decades of experience in offshore fishing. He proudly owns a fleet of five charter boats operating out of Zeke’s Landing Marina. Tom’s fishing journey started early, casting lines for bass and bream in nearby farm ponds and rivers, or seeking speckled trout and redfish from his family’s dock on Wolf Bay. This childhood passion flourished when his father, Captain Gloyice, introduced a custom-built charter boat in 1980. Tom spent his youth working as a deckhand alongside his father and captained his first charter trip at just 18. After his father’s passing, he took over the vessel and continued to build upon the family legacy.

Following his graduation from UWF with a degree in criminal justice, Tom married Kim in 1997. The couple bought their first boat the next year and embraced the charter fishing lifestyle with enthusiasm. Since then, Tom’s family has grown — his son Garrett is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Mississippi State — and so has his fleet. Over the years, he has expanded his operation to include vessels such as a 34-foot Crusader, collaborating with Captain Brett Russell to further broaden the fleet in 2019 and 2022.

One of Tom’s key strengths lies in mentoring emerging captains. He has guided many young deckhands, some of whom began as teenagers under his tutelage, into skilled, reliable leaders at sea. The camaraderie among his crew creates a closely-knit team, fostering mutual support and knowledge sharing both in the marina and offshore. This strong collaboration gives his operation a distinct edge.

Beyond fishing, Tom excels in restoring older boats. With a thorough understanding of engines, generators, and sophisticated marine electronics, he brings vessels back to life, ensuring safety and success for anglers. This mechanical skill is a passionate complement to his noteworthy fishing career.

Now in his 50s, Tom continues to embrace outdoor adventures, including hunting and fishing, spending quality time with family and his two Labradors, and piloting a 64-foot Viking sportfisher owned by a lifelong friend. He participates in marlin tournaments, travels seeking new adventures, and never misses the chance for a quality boat ride on a well-crafted vessel. Above all, Captain Tom’s greatest motivation is the joy his clients experience — from first-timers landing their inaugural catch to loyal regulars returning year after year. His infectious passion and commitment to crafting memorable experiences keep anglers coming back.
