My journey in offshore fishing began in South Padre back in 1986, starting as a deckhand to build the necessary skills to become a captain by 1990. I spent 17 years helming an offshore boat for Jim's Pier before launching my own business in 2001. Owning and operating boats has provided me with extensive knowledge about the upkeep and safety measures essential for fishing every day. Making a living from fishing has taught me that thorough preparation is crucial for a successful outing.
I run the boat with a single crew member who assists with client inquiries and manages the back deck. We had an incredible time on one trip and would definitely book again immediately. The crew was well-informed about the best fishing spots and guided us beginners on how to fish correctly.
My family of six, including three teenagers and three adults, joined a six-hour deep sea fishing excursion with Todd and Fernando. Despite having no prior experience and some of us feeling a bit seasick, they were extremely knowledgeable and supportive. My husband and I genuinely enjoyed the adventure. Todd expertly guided us to prime fishing locations, and if the catch was slow, he promptly moved us to a better spot. Fernando worked diligently, helping me and the kids throughout the trip. I never had to bait a hook or handle the catches myself. Fernando patiently taught my family how to work the reel and provided clear instructions.
The boat was equipped with a restroom and an air-conditioned space for comfort when needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another trip with them. We spent a fantastic day fishing with Captain Todd, who brings a wealth of experience and expertise to every journey. The outing was both fun and educational!
Both Todd and his team did an outstanding job, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If I go fishing again, it will certainly be with Todd. This was our second trip with Captain Todd, and we are already looking forward to the next one! Even though the waters were rough and the catch was limited, Todd’s knowledge of fishing spots and top-quality equipment made the experience worthwhile. I would still choose to book with him again during a calmer season, knowing we’ll be in capable hands.
You can cancel your booking without any charges if done at least 5 days prior to your trip, and the amount will be credited back to your account. If you cancel within 5 days of the trip, your deposit will be non-refundable and paid to the guide. Cancellations on the day of the trip or not showing up will result in a full charge to your card for the trip cost.
All rods, reels, and tackle are provided. However, we suggest you also bring sunglasses, sunscreen, clothing suitable for the weather, and any personal gear you wish to use during the trip.
On this fishing adventure, you'll engage in bottom fishing targeting a wide range of species, from vermillion snapper to the impressive Warsaw grouper. We employ a variety of techniques such as using cut bait, jigging, and live bait to increase your chances of success. This trip offers opportunities to catch several types of grouper found in deep waters, including scamp, black, and yellowedge grouper.
One of the highlights is the chance to hook a massive Warsaw grouper, with catches reaching up to 150 pounds, although these giants can grow even larger. Additionally, amberjack and red snapper are frequently encountered during the trip and may be kept when in season within federal waters.
The 1983 Delta 38-foot Sportfisher, named "Reel Madness," offers an exceptional fishing experience with its powerful twin 600 HP Caterpillar engines.
