I was born in Rio Grande City, Texas, in 1985 and grew up in the beautiful Lower Rio Grande Valley, where a passion for the outdoors naturally took root. From early childhood, I found a deep enthusiasm for hunting, calling, and shooting. Living in South Texas has allowed me to cultivate and sharpen my skills as a dedicated outdoorsman. Through the opportunity to assist as a guide on various ranches, I gained valuable insight into the vital role of predator control and wildlife conservation.
For the past six years, I have specialized in guiding fishing excursions, including wade fishing, drift fishing, bottom fishing, and flounder gigging. I also lead exciting airboat trips into brackish waters, focusing on species such as alligator gar, redfish, and catfish. My commitment and expertise guarantee a memorable and rewarding fishing adventure for everyone I accompany.
Most summers, I spend my time navigating the waters of the Lower Laguna Madre as the captain of my charter, Waist Deep Fishing. I am flexible with start locations to accommodate your needs. Our trips have been highly praised, with clients of all ages, including families, sharing their enthusiasm and unforgettable experiences. It truly is a pleasure to provide some of the best guided fishing outings available.

A bay fishing excursion in the Lower Laguna Madre, departing from either Port Mansfield or South Padre Island, offers an exciting and fulfilling adventure for anglers of all skill levels. Setting off aboard a sleek 24-foot Shallow Sport Classic equipped with a powerful 250 Yamaha outboard engine, you are soon cruising through the crystal-clear waters of this celebrated fishing hotspot.
As the boat leaves the dock, excitement builds. The Shallow Sport Classic, engineered for excellent performance in shallow waters, smoothly navigates across the turquoise flats of the Laguna Madre. Thanks to its shallow draft, the vessel grants access to prime fishing locations that larger boats cannot reach, maximizing your chances to catch redfish, trout, flounder, and black drum.
Your knowledgeable guide, well-versed in the local environment, steers you toward the first fishing area. These calm, shallow waters are perfect for sight fishing. Soon, you spot a school of redfish swimming beneath the surface, their copper hues catching the sunlight. With a precise cast, you feel an immediate pull on the line—the fight is thrilling, but with skill and patience, you successfully reel in a stunning redfish, its vibrant colors gleaming in the light.
Next, the journey takes you to somewhat deeper waters, home to an abundance of speckled trout. Using a selection of live bait or artificial lures, you cast into these channels and find yourself in a lively battle with a large trout. The excitement of this catch, along with the speckled beauty of the fish, creates a memorable moment.
As the day continues, attention turns to flounder and black drum. The boat drifts silently over sandy bottoms and grassy flats, habitats where these species thrive. Flounder, recognizable by their distinctive flat shapes, present a different challenge, often requiring a slow and careful approach. Landing one offers a delicious reward: a flaky white fish cherished by local culinary experts.
The black drum, notable for their size and strength, add another layer of excitement. Frequently found near oyster beds and grassy shorelines, these fish are marked by their black and white stripes and a unique drumming sound when hooked. Bringing in a large black drum showcases your angling prowess and adds to the satisfaction of the day.
Throughout the outing, the breathtaking scenery of the Lower Laguna Madre enhances every moment. Expansive skies, silhouettes of distant barrier islands, and playful dolphins occasionally spotted in the waves contribute to a picture-perfect setting. Whether you are seasoned or new to fishing, the guide offers helpful advice and techniques, boosting your chances of hooking a prized catch and ensuring an enjoyable, productive day on the water.
As the sun sets, painting the bay with golden hues, the boat gently returns to the dock. The day's haul reflects the rich biodiversity and fantastic fishing the Lower Laguna Madre is known for. Whether you decide to take your catch home for a fresh seafood meal or opt to practice catch and release, the memories of this unforgettable fishing adventure will remain long after you leave the water.
