You can cancel your booking at no cost if done at least 14 days prior to your scheduled trip, and the amount will be credited to your account. If you cancel within 14 days of the trip, your deposit will be retained by the guide. Canceling on the day of the trip or failing to show up will result in a full charge of the trip’s remaining balance to your payment method.
All necessary gear is provided; however, we suggest bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, clothing suitable for the weather, and any additional items you may want for the trip.
Nearshore fishing targets vary throughout the year, influenced by seasonal changes, recent catches, wind and current conditions, and the makeup of our crew. During winter and early spring, we mainly focus on light tackle bottom rigs to catch species like Sheepshead, Pompano, Snapper, and Sharks, with occasional trolling for Bull Redfish. From late May to early August, trolling becomes our dominant nearshore fishing method, complemented by occasional flat lining for Spanish and King Mackerel and some light line drop bottom fishing for smaller Red Snapper. Additionally, shark fishing is popular in nearshore waters during the warmer months.
Trolling offers a relaxed way to explore nearshore waters. This technique involves slowly cruising while pulling spoons, dusters, and crankbaits behind the boat to attract some of the Gulf’s fastest fish. However, the calmness quickly changes when a fish strikes, bringing an exciting and fast-paced fight. Common catches while trolling in summer include Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bonita, Bluefish, and even the occasional shark.
Besides trolling and bottom fishing, our smaller groups often enjoy flat lining and lure casting. Using jigs and Gotchas is highly effective for catching Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bluefish, and more. Flat lining is typically best with small groups and when wind and current move in the same direction. This method involves drifting live, dead, or cut bait on large circle hooks near the water’s surface with little to no weight, allowing us to fish the upper water column. This approach frequently results in catches of Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Bonita, sharks, and sometimes Cobia. Some of the largest fish caught on charters come from flat lining. Additionally, fishing with live or dead shrimp on Carolina rigs using light spinning rods is productive for mackerel and also attracts Black Snapper, Pompano, Redfish, and Sheepshead.
During summer, bottom fishing is another option, especially on weekends in June and July during Alabama’s brief state Red Snapper season. This presents a unique opportunity to target one of the Gulf’s most admired and hard-fighting reef fish. While Red Snapper are prized for their taste, legal-size catches are rare at the depths we fish nearshore. Those seeking consistent legal Red Snapper should consider offshore fishing charters, which provide better chances for meeting size regulations.
