Arrive at the marina and settle into your accommodations, choosing either the houseboat you’ve rented or your hotel room. Once settled, head over to Crawgators or Cypress Grill to enjoy a cold drink and savor some fresh Louisiana seafood. Afterward, get some rest to prepare for the day ahead.
When your alarm goes off, start your morning with a cup of coffee and apply some sunblock. If you’re staying on the houseboat, the boat will pick you up right from there—just hop on and get ready to depart. For hotel guests, a short walk to the dock in the morning will have you ready to set off.
The journey to the fishing grounds begins with a scenic 20-mile run downriver. Listen to the smooth purr of the quad Suzuki engines powering the sleek 42’ Razorhead as it reaches cruising speed. Relax in a comfortable bean bag chair and enjoy the ride.
Make a stop to pick up fresh bait before arriving at the prime fishing spots. Once there, it’s time to fish. Drop your line and eagerly wait for the first bite. Suddenly, the clicker sounds—vrrr, vrrr, vrrrrrr—signaling a strike! Grab your rod as a circle hook sets in the mouth of a powerful yellowfin tuna. Feel the rod flex as drag peels off during the initial run. Pump and reel to gain line, only for the tuna to make a second, thrilling run.
Keep pumping and winding until your mate shouts, “We’ve got color!” Look down to see a magnificent tuna spiraling to the surface. When the fish breaks the water, your mate delivers a perfect gaff shot—catch secured. In that moment, a flood of happiness, relief, excitement, and pride washes over you. A photo captures this unforgettable experience, a memory to cherish forever. And then, you prepare to do it all again.
Relax with a cold drink and a sandwich while you watch your companion go through the same exhilarating experience you just had.
After the intense tuna fishing, switch things up by targeting bonus species. Set your sights on swordfish, grouper, snapper, mahi-mahi, or wahoo for some extra excitement.
As the day winds down, the boat shifts back to cruising mode, and you glide back to the marina, comfortably seated on the bean bag. Though tired, you feel accomplished from a day well spent. The crew will clean your catch, allowing you to pack your coolers with beautiful tuna for the journey home. Be sure to save a fillet for dinner! After a refreshing shower and change of clothes, bring your fresh catch to the restaurant where they’ll prepare it for you—nothing tastes fresher than this.
Enjoy a delicious meal and a beverage or two, but don’t overindulge—you’ve booked a second day! Tomorrow, you’ll experience Venice tuna fishing just as it’s meant to be, all over again.
You haven’t truly experienced Tuna Town until you’ve fished with Josh. Book your trip now—you won’t regret it!
