At 35 years old, Captain Rudy has spent more than half his life dedicated to fishing, bringing with him 25 years of valuable experience. Growing up, his father, Rafa Sr., encouraged him with the words, “If you’re not aiming to excel in school, then you better learn how to fish!” and Rudy took that advice to heart. By the age of 16, he was already piloting a Twin Engine Boat for his father, marking the beginning of an impressive career. Over the years, Rudy has enjoyed many memorable moments, including releasing his largest catch ever—a 1,200-pound Black Marlin.
For the past four years, Captain Rudy has been both the captain and a key member of the fleet. He takes great pride in their status as the most in-demand charter boat and crew at Marina Pez Vela. Known affectionately as the “Sushi Captain,” Rudy has a knack for locating and bringing in Yellowfin Tuna, making him a favorite among fishing enthusiasts. With the addition of the 38’ Bertram to the fleet, he’s eager to guide you on an unforgettable fishing adventure along Costa Fishing charters.

The fishing takes place aboard a 33-foot Dawson sportfisher that accommodates up to six guests. Powered by a 400 HP Cummins QSL Turbo Diesel engine reaching a cruising speed of 24 knots, this vessel is perfectly suited for big game fishing in the tranquil Quepos seas. Comfort is guaranteed with a fully air-conditioned salon, main helm, and cabin. The boat also features top-of-the-line navigational gear, outriggers, a fighting chair, a live bait well, and tuna tubes to enhance your fishing adventure.
Captain Rudy provides all the necessary fishing rods, reels, tackle, as well as food and drinks for everyone on board. He also offers a fish cleaning service, allowing you to take home any catch you keep.
