About Your Guide

Prepare yourself for an exciting adventure on the water with Captain Manuel and Ben! Born and raised in Drake Bay in the southern region of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, Captain Manuel relocated to Quepos over 30 years ago, where he has been based ever since. With 16 years of boating experience, he is well-versed in fishing around Quepos and the Los Sueños Marinas. Captain Manuel specializes in offshore fishing for trophy catches like Marlin, Sailfish, and Tuna. He is also highly skilled at landing large Roosterfish. A standout moment in his career was landing an impressive 1,245-pound Black Marlin in August 2008. His expertise and reputation have even earned him a feature on ESPN’s Fly Fishing Around the World.

Ben, on the other hand, hails from the Isle of Man, a small island nestled in the Irish Sea. Surrounded by water from a young age, fishing has always been second nature to him. He landed his first Marlin at 19 and has been passionate about it ever since. Over the years, Ben has caught and released Marlins weighing up to 500 pounds at various international locations, including Kenya, Vanuatu, Mozambique, Mauritius, and Costa Rica. His fishing credentials include participation in prestigious events such as the Quepos Billfish Cup, the Marina Pez Vela Open, the Club Amateur de Pesca Tournament, the Pelagic Rockstar, and the Pelagic Inshore Classic. Ben's fishing exploits have also been showcased on TV programs like The Fishing Line and Hook The Future. His extensive travels have allowed him to fish in some of the world's most exotic waters.
