Introducing Captain Tom, a lifelong resident of Orange Beach with an impressive 40+ years of experience in offshore fishing. As the proud operator of five charter boats docked at Zeke’s Landing Marina, Tom’s fishing journey began early—catching bass and bream in nearby ponds and rivers, then targeting speckled trout and redfish off his family’s dock on Wolf Bay. His passion for fishing truly blossomed when his father, Captain Gloyice, launched a custom-built charter boat in 1980. Tom spent his youth working as a deckhand alongside his dad and captained his first charter at 18. After his father’s passing, Tom continued the family tradition by taking over the vessel.

With a criminal justice degree from UWF, Tom married Kim in 1997, and the next year they bought their first boat together, fully embracing the charter fishing lifestyle. Together, they built a family—his son Garrett is advancing his education with a Master’s degree at Mississippi State—while Tom steadily expanded his fleet. The operation grew to include a 34’ Crusader and, with Captain Brett Russell’s partnership, further additions were made in 2019 and 2022.

One of Tom’s key strengths lies in mentoring aspiring captains. Many started as teenagers under his guidance and have become skilled, trustworthy leaders. The camaraderie among his team creates a supportive, family-like atmosphere, enhancing their effectiveness both on the water and at the marina. This tight-knit culture greatly benefits the success of their fishing charters.

Beyond his prowess on the water, Tom is also talented in restoring older vessels. His deep mechanical knowledge of engines, generators, and sophisticated electronics ensures not only the safety of anglers but also the peak performance of his boats. This restoration work has become a passionate side pursuit within his well-established fishing career.

Now in his 50s, Tom remains enthusiastic about outdoor life—enjoying hunting, fishing, and quality time with his family and two Labrador retrievers. He also captains a 64’ Viking sportfisher for a close friend, participates in marlin tournaments, travels for new adventures, and always welcomes a ride in a well-crafted boat. What motivates Captain Tom most is witnessing the joy his clients experience—whether it’s newcomers catching their first fish or returning customers who keep coming back year after year. His infectious enthusiasm and commitment to creating unforgettable memories continually draw anglers to his charters.
