About Your Guide

Captain Jaime is a seasoned local fisherman from Cabo San Lucas, renowned for owning a premier sportfishing fleet. Growing up along Mexico’s Pacific coast, he honed his skills using traditional techniques to target various offshore and nearshore species. Operating out of San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, his charter fleet consists of six well-equipped boats, designed to offer exceptional fishing experiences. Jaime and his crew prioritize ensuring guests catch fish and leave with fresh, quality catches to enjoy with their families. Prepare for an unforgettable adventure and discover Baja California Sur in a unique and exciting way.

With extensive experience myself, running hundreds of charters annually, I clearly recognize the difference between a productive and a slow day on the water. I spent three consecutive days fishing with Captain Poncho, and here’s an overview of those trips:

On the first day, my wife joined the trip, and we stayed sheltered to avoid seasickness. We encountered a continuous sierra mackerel bite and quickly reached our limit. Though we tried jigging in deeper waters with no success, on the return trip we stumbled upon a feeding frenzy of jack crevalle that was exhilarating and relentless. The fish aggressively attacked various surface lures, providing remarkable fishing action. We also caught a few small skipjacks and released some small groupers. That evening, we enjoyed delicious mackerel ceviche.

Day two, my wife stayed ashore while Captain Poncho and I headed out in a panga. Using land markers, Poncho guided us to a shelf about 10 miles east of the marina in 150 feet of water. It was rough and windy, but we persisted alongside small commercial handliners. We caught some bonito, followed by a nice red snapper jigged by Poncho, and I landed a 55-pound amberjack using a Squidtrex lure with a 25-pound fluorocarbon leader. The amberjack steaks made for a tasty dinner reminiscent of swordfish.

The third day reunited my wife and me aboard the center-console boat with Poncho. We returned to the mackerel grounds, using frozen bait due to the lack of live options, yet the fish readily bit. While drifting, I jigged near the bottom and caught several large sculpins, triggerfish, and a bonito, which we kept for fresh fish tacos. Overall, a fantastic trip managed by capable and friendly people. My recommendation is to bring quality tackle when possible to enhance your chances. The crew’s friendly demeanor and professionalism made our first time very comfortable—an incredible experience.

Another memorable outing included three couples on a six-hour Sea of Cortez adventure. Jaime efficiently handled the setup, including fishing licenses at the marina. The highlight was catching two marlins, including a whopping 150-pound trophy—an unforgettable achievement. We’re already planning our return.

However, not all trips have been perfect. One customer shared dissatisfaction with a deep-sea and inshore charter. Despite booking an eight-hour excursion, they ended up trolling close to shore for most of the trip with minimal interaction from the crew. The catch was limited to a few undersized tuna, which were released. At a substantial cost, the experience felt more like a boat tour rather than productive fishing, leading to disappointment and discomfort.

We deeply regret when guests don’t have the experience they hoped for. On that particular day, unavailable live sardines and limited squid bait led to a challenging fishing session, though two tunas and a skipjack were caught. Sharks hit the lines but had to be released due to local regulations. Later, attempts to locate larger gamefish like marlin, dorado, or wahoo were unsuccessful. Offshore fishing in Los Cabos primarily involves trolling with multiple lines at varying distances, a method thoroughly explained during the trip. Understandably, fishing can sometimes be unpredictable, but we always strive to provide the best experience. We welcome feedback to help us improve.

In another review, guests appreciated the crew’s efforts in steering them towards multiple catches including six small tuna and a 200-pound marlin. However, they noted that the boat’s condition did not match the photos shown online—with safety concerns over worn flooring, loose fishing chairs, and limited cold storage for drinks. We thank them for bringing these issues to our attention. The boat undergoes comprehensive annual maintenance and scheduled refurbishments, including structural checks and thorough cleaning. We are also upgrading our cooling equipment, ensuring ice is always provided on board for the duration of every charter. Guest safety and comfort remain top priorities.

For first-time fishers, another family shared their experience, pointing out some organizational challenges during check-in, limited communication from the crew, and an emphasis on fishing over wildlife viewing. Concerns about engine smoke, lack of visible life jackets, and overall boat management were noted. We assure every charter complies with strict safety regulations, carries all necessary equipment, and is operated under special permits. While boats aren’t brand new, they are well-maintained to ensure a secure and enjoyable outing. Our crews focus on providing the best fishing opportunities possible, often at the expense of leisurely sightseeing, especially when time is limited to optimize catches.

We are grateful for all feedback, which helps us continually enhance our services. Customer safety and a rewarding fishing experience are our foremost commitments. For those dissatisfied with their trips, we strive to make amends through follow-up communication and offers for future discounted charters, hoping to deliver the adventure everyone deserves.

The duration of our fishing trips varies according to the chosen tour, with options typically including a half-day (5 hours) or a full-day (8 hours) excursion. Each journey begins at the San José del Cabo marina, where we head to prime fishing spots in both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, selected based on seasonal conditions and current weather. Depending on the species you aim to catch, our trips usually cover distances of 5 to 20 miles offshore.

We employ a range of fishing techniques such as trolling, casting, jigging, and live bait fishing, tailored to the targeted fish species. Our common targets include striped, blue, and black marlin, roosterfish, dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna, wahoo, snapper, among others.

Each boat is captained by a knowledgeable and experienced local fisherman, with larger vessels also staffed by a mate to assist during the trip. Our boats come fully equipped with professional fishing gear, fighting chairs, coolers, and shaded areas for comfort. Depending on the boat model, additional amenities like restrooms and VHF radios for safety may be available.

We offer extra services such as fish cleaning after your catch and recommendations for nearby restaurants that can prepare your fish. For your comfort and protection, we advise bringing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable attire. Transportation from your hotel to the marina can be arranged upon request.

Our trips are flexible and customizable, allowing adjustments to trip length, preferred target species, and fishing methods to suit your preferences. We offer both inshore and offshore fishing experiences designed to meet different interests and goals.
