About Your Guide

Hailing from Port Isabel, Captain Russell brings over four and a half decades of expertise navigating the shallow waters of the Lower Laguna Madre. At 57 years old, he offers a wealth of experience combined with strong ties to the local community. Specializing in catching Redfish, Trout, and other popular South Texas species, Captain Russell is both Coast Guard certified and holds a Texas state license, ensuring a professional and safe fishing adventure. His 24-foot Carolina Skiff, designed for comfort and easy maneuvering in shallow waters, serves as the perfect vessel for fishing excursions.

Captain Russell welcomes anglers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans, making every trip enjoyable and welcoming. Beyond fishing, he also provides eco-tours featuring dolphin and bird watching, shell collecting, cast netting, snorkeling, and more, offering a leisurely and scenic day out on the water.

Having fished worldwide and worked as a guide, I can confidently recommend the exceptional fishing experience Captain Russell delivers. Whether you're planning a family outing or a day with friends, he ensures memorable moments on the water. Despite windy conditions, he put us on fish early and repeatedly. My youngest, at age seven, caught their personal record during the trip, and we look forward to returning for another adventure.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Captain Russell, catching our limit of Redfish along with various other species. My wife proudly landed a “quadruple crown,” hooking a Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Drum in one trip. Afterward, we were invited to a private local bar where we gained fascinating insights into the area's history. Captain Russell’s expertise is evident as other captains would follow him to his fishing spots, acknowledging where the best catches are.

Fishing with Russell was an enjoyable experience. He is knowledgeable about the fish and the region. Though we wished for a few more catches, that’s part of the sport. Captain Russell did everything possible to help us land fish, and I would gladly arrange another outing with him.
