Discover the ultimate destination for trophy Rainbow Trout fishing in Alaska at Naknek River Camp. Whether you want to witness the smolt migrations in June, marvel at the massive salmon runs in July, chase the agile silvers in August, or indulge in phenomenal trophy Rainbow Trout fishing in September, this trip offers something special each month.

Forget the idea that a trip to Alaska is just a "once in a lifetime" experience. As Jim explains, one visit is never enough for serious anglers who crave trophy-sized fish. That's why Naknek River Camp has worked hard to make Alaska fishing accessible and affordable for enthusiasts. Unlike many high-cost lodges, Jim keeps prices reasonable by running a family-operated camp.

Jim’s family plays an essential role in the smooth operation of the camp. His wife wears many hats—as head of housekeeping, chef, and a full-time licensed fishing guide. Their older son, a passionate fisherman and four-time Michigan State Casting Champion, supports daily camp activities. Their daughter, also a Michigan State Casting Champion, is the camp’s official photographer and dessert chef. Meanwhile, their youngest son is starting his guiding career, specializing in landing large salmon with expert netting skills.

Seasonal Target Species

  • Rainbow Trout: Target salmon smolt and leech with 5-6 weight fly rods using leeches, minnows, and small dry flies.

  • King & Sockeye Salmon: Use heavy rods for deep-water fishing, with a choice of fly or spin tackle.
