Our perfect day with Captain Joel took us 30 miles out to the “humps,” where we landed two mahi and six tuna, all keepers. Joel’s laid-back and patient approach made for a great experience, especially with the kids as he taught them deep-sea fishing techniques. Carol, Doug, and I enjoyed an exciting near-shore six-hour trip with Captain Joel. We ventured beyond Sombrero Reef, targeting yellowtail snapper, grouper, permit, and yellow jacks near the Seven Mile Bridge, and finished fishing around a sunken shipwreck. Captain Joel’s expertise ensured our lines were constantly bending with delicious snapper varieties like yellowtail, mangrove, and schoolmaster.
The Ol’ Captain is truly a gem. You won’t find a better fishing experience in the Keys! We caught an abundance of fish even out of the usual season, enough to feed us for days. Captain Joel prioritized our enjoyment throughout the entire six-hour excursion, which flew by like only 30 minutes!
