My fishing journey began at Wrightsville Beach when I was around seven years old, tagging along with my Dad to Johnnie Mercer’s pier. Back then, the pier was constructed from wood, and I vividly recall the sensation of walking along it, peering down at the waves crashing beneath through the spaces between the planks. As I grew older, I ventured offshore fishing on boats owned by close friends. After spending years figuring out my path, I finally purchased my own boat in 2002. Shortly after, I obtained my captain’s license and have been working on the water ever since. One of the greatest joys of being a charter captain is introducing newcomers to offshore fishing, watching their excitement build as they catch their first fish, then another, and yet another. Ger was fantastic! He guided us to Spanish mackerel and even helped me land a shark—something I had always wanted to do.

We typically head about 20 miles offshore to explore the extensive high-relief ledges and numerous wrecks that span for miles. These significant depth changes offshore tend to attract large schools of baitfish, which in turn draw in a variety of predator fish. To make the most of our fishing time, we usually begin near the inshore edge of the hottest fishing spots and gradually work our way farther out to sea. The majority of our catch consists of King Mackerel, but you can also expect to reel in Amberjack, Barracuda, Mahi, and occasionally a Sailfish. This trip is ideal for those who enjoy spending extended periods far out on the open water. Upon returning to the dock, I will take care of cleaning your fish and bagging the fillets for you.
