Captain Matthew's passion for fishing began early in his childhood and has only deepened over the years. Through dedication and years of gaining experience, he achieved his dream of owning a charter business. Being a local, he possesses an in-depth knowledge of the Gulf waters. As a proud father of three, he cherishes the moments when his wife and kids can join him on the boat.
His fishing journey started as a boy exploring the banks of Choctawhatchee Bay. At just 11 years old, he convinced his parents to get him a 14-foot John Boat. Although it came without a motor or trailer, it didn’t matter—he finally had his own boat. With determination, he and his friends crafted a trailer from pine trees and repurposed old bike tires for wheels. Since the boat ramp was about a mile away, reaching the water wasn’t always easy. That summer, Captain Matthew estimates he paddled over 100 miles around the bay. It was clear then that fishing would be a lifelong passion.
By age 14, he secured his first role as Second Mate on a charter vessel in Destin Harbor. Over the next six years, he steadily advanced to First Mate and earned his 100 Ton Masters Captain’s License. On his 20th birthday summer, he experienced a defining moment—catching his first blue marlin, a stunning and unforgettable fish. From that point, he was determined to spend as many days as possible chasing these majestic creatures.
This ambition led him to a position on a private yacht, where he spent five years traveling internationally and fishing for blue marlin in destinations including Costa Rica, Mexico, The Bahamas, St. Thomas, and Bermuda. During this period, he met his wife, and with the arrival of their first son, priorities shifted. The desire to be with his family brought him back to Destin.
Returning home, Captain Matthew applied the advanced fishing techniques he had acquired worldwide to local waters. His skills paid off with over $1.5 million in tournament winnings throughout the Gulf of Mexico. A highlight of his career came in 2009 when he broke the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic record with an impressive 716-pound blue marlin. He remains active in competitive fishing, continually honing his expertise and savoring every moment on the water.
By 2019, Captain Matthew was living his ultimate fishing dream. With three wonderful children—two boys and a girl—a dream boat, and the joy of sharing his passion for fishing with families and individuals from across the globe, his life is full of fulfillment. He often reflects fondly on that childhood summer when he and his friends hauled a homemade trailer over a mile to launch the boat, never imagining the incredible journey ahead. Today, every time he steps on the water, he's still that same young boy filled with excitement and love for the sport.
