Boca Grande is renowned for its diverse fish population, but when it comes to thrilling, action-packed fishing, Tarpon undoubtedly take the crown. Recognized as Florida’s top inshore gamefish, there’s no better location to catch one than right here with Captain Chris.
Captain Chris has devoted much of his life to guiding anglers in the pursuit of Tarpon. This passion is deeply rooted in family tradition, as Tarpon fishing has always been a part of his heritage. At just five years old, Chris landed his first Tarpon, an impressive 80-pound fish, in the deep waters of Boca Grande Pass, fishing alongside his father, Mark. Even before his birth, his mother Cynthia was battling Tarpon in these waters while pregnant with him. Captain Chris’s charters focus on traditional live bait techniques, using popular baits such as Blue Crabs, Pass Crabs, Squirrelfish, and Jumbo Shrimp to entice the "Silver King."
During the trip, live baits are carefully drifted near the bottom of the pass and through other depths where Tarpon frequent, utilizing a transducer bottom machine. This approach demands precise, continuous line adjustments to keep the bait within the optimal “strike zone.” To ensure the baits appear as natural as possible, Captain Chris employs long leaders, heavy lead weights, and skillful boat maneuvering. Thanks to these proven methods, clients enjoy a remarkable success rate of over 90% on Tarpon trips, though fishing always carries no absolute guarantees.
Captain Chris conducts charters out of a custom-built 21’ Clearwater 2000CC bay boat, tailored to his exacting standards in 2019. This state-of-the-art vessel affords excellent stability, ample fishing space, and easy maneuverability. It also features a shaded T-top to protect from the sun and a Bluetooth stereo system, so you’re welcome to bring your favorite music along for the experience.
All necessary equipment, including rods, reels, bait, and tackle, is provided by Captain Chris. Anglers only need to bring sunscreen (please avoid spray types), suitable clothing, a cooler with snacks and drinks, and a positive attitude for an unforgettable adventure.
