Captain David hails from a family with a rich fishing tradition. Growing up fishing the waters of Louisiana, he eventually embraced a full-time fishing career to share his knowledge and passion for the sport with others. During the winter, David also applies his skills to guide duck hunting excursions. Now based just south of Houston, Captain David is intimately familiar with the Galveston Bay Complex near Baytown, Texas, navigating these waters with ease. His fishing trips are conveniently located close to Houston, and he’s eager to introduce you to his favorite local spots. He offers flexibility in terms of where your adventure begins.
I had an outstanding experience on this trip! Dave put a lot of effort into preparing everything to ensure the trip ran smoothly and was enjoyable. As a seasoned hunter, he guided me to numerous successful shots. His boat is well-equipped, and he knows many hidden, quiet fishing locations. Even with the early season’s heat, we managed to harvest several ducks, and Dave graciously cleaned them for me at the boat ramp. Highly recommended!
Our time with Captain David was simply fantastic! He was friendly, patient, and great fun to fish with. Since it was my first time saltwater fishing, he took the time to teach me how to bait the hook and helped me as I gained confidence—no pressure or judgment at all. He is genuinely a great guy! Throughout the day, he took us to numerous productive spots where we caught black drum, croakers, and red drum. He even shared a secret "Hail Mary" fishing spot with me where I landed a 15-pound Red Drum. He patiently guided me step-by-step to bring it aboard, sharing in the excitement. Along the way, we spotted a mother dolphin and her calf, and Captain David maneuvered the boat close enough for me to snap some memorable photos. On our return to the dock, he shared interesting local history and information about the sights we passed. Without a doubt, I’ll book with Captain David again next time I'm in the area.
Although the day was uncomfortably hot and the birds were not quite cooperating, David did everything possible to help us find them, making it an enjoyable outing regardless. He kindly offered us a rescheduled hunt, hoping the cooler weather would bring in more birds. In my opinion, David provides the best guided experience we've had, and we fully intend to book future trips with him.
There was one challenging trip where conditions were tough. With three hunters, only six shots were fired at a distant duck beyond shooting range. Low water levels made it difficult to position ourselves within acceptable distance, measuring approximately 90 yards from cover to the water’s edge in one spot. This is the first paid hunt I have experienced where no shots were taken effectively. The guide mentioned that had he known about the low water beforehand, he would have canceled the trip. The next day’s hunt was indeed canceled. A makeup trip would have been appreciated in this case.
Hi Dana, we appreciate your feedback and have reached out to discuss ways we can improve future experiences. We also want to offer you a discount on your next hunting adventure with us!
Dave took my 8-year-old son and me out, and we had a wonderful time. Despite tough conditions and my less-than-perfect shooting, he did an excellent job positioning us for duck sightings. We’re already looking forward to returning later this season. See you soon, Dave! – Joe D.
Captain David was excellent. Though the weather and tides weren’t on our side, he worked diligently to find fish for us. It was a quality trip with a top-notch guide, and I look forward to coming back.
