I've always dreamed of catching a tarpon on the fly, and it remained on my bucket list for years. When planning my trip to Cancun, I made sure to include this opportunity. Despite falling very ill just hours before my guide Orlando was to pick me up, I pushed through. Even feeling terrible, I waited in the lobby for him. He faced challenges passing security but remained cheerful and encouraging.

As we traveled to the boat, I was too sick to speak. Although I could barely cast the fly, Orlando persistently pointed out fish. After several rests, I finally caught that fish, fulfilling a long-held dream. His patience and kindness shone through throughout the day. Beyond being a fantastic guide, Orlando is a genuinely good person. I look forward to returning someday when I'm healthier.

Orlando worked tirelessly to get me on fish. Had I been feeling better, I'm sure I would have landed several more. I strongly recommend Orlando as a guide. His communication before the trip was excellent, and he went out of his way to provide convenient hotel pickup and drop-off, sparing me the hassle of early morning taxis or ride-shares. Although the fishing conditions were challenging, we managed to catch some young tarpon on the fly. When conditions changed, we switched to spinning rods and caught even more. The trip also included visits to remote backwaters inhabited by crocodiles, a reminder to be cautious when retrieving snagged flies!
