About Your Guide

Captain Mark, a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain and a disabled Navy Veteran, has been passionate about backcountry fishing since he was a young boy of 9. His journey in guiding began with a heartfelt mission to take wounded and disabled veterans out on the water, allowing them to experience the tranquility and wonder of fishing in the Florida Keys. This meaningful endeavor grew into a full-time business over the past 15 years, although he continues to offer free trips to veterans throughout the year.

With a lifelong love for saltwater fishing, Captain Mark spent many years exploring the Gulf waters near Tampa before relocating to the Florida Keys. There, he dedicated himself to sharing his extensive knowledge and fishing expertise, especially focusing on veterans—both with and without disabilities—encouraging camaraderie and enjoyment through fishing. Over time, his passion expanded to include anglers of all backgrounds, always eager to introduce newcomers to the sport and share in the joy of fishing.

The natural beauty of the Everglades, Florida Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean is something Captain Mark believes everyone should witness at least once. Whether it’s someone’s first saltwater fishing experience or the hundredth, there is always something new and exciting to learn on the water.

His clients often commend Captain Mark for his skill and dedication, noting how he goes the extra mile to locate fish, even adjusting routes when conditions change to ensure a comfortable and successful outing. Many have expressed heartfelt appreciation for the memorable experiences he provides, highlighting his kindness, extensive knowledge, and unwavering commitment to making each trip exceptional.

Guests frequently praise Captain Mark’s professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine care, sharing stories of catching a wide variety of fish including tarpon, mackerel, snapper, trout, bluefish, cobia, jack crevalle, and even sharks. His ability to put anglers on the right spots consistently leads to exciting and fruitful fishing adventures, accompanied by laughter and lasting memories.

Beyond just being an expert guide, Captain Mark is known as a remarkable individual who inspires those around him. His ongoing support for the veteran community and his dedication to providing meaningful experiences through fishing set him apart. Many who have fished with him describe the day as more than just a trip—it’s a chance to connect, enjoy nature, and create unforgettable moments with family and friends.

Inshore fishing in the Florida Keys draws anglers worldwide who seek the “grand slam” of shallow water fishing. The area is famous for its variety of prized species available to target in these productive waters. Backcountry fishing takes place within the inland waters surrounding the Florida Keys and Key West. Both flats fishing and backcountry fishing happen in the same locale since the backcountry encompasses all the flats.

The shallow waters in the Keys are teeming with abundant fish prey like shrimp and crabs, creating an ideal hunting ground for larger game fish that either reside here or pass through. Backcountry water depths vary from zero to 30 feet, featuring expansive cuts and channels that separate the flats, alongside the mangrove islands—all integral parts of this unique “backcountry” ecosystem.

Venture into the Everglades region, and you can expect exciting catches such as Redfish, Speckled Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Blue Runners, Permit, Bonefish, and even Tarpon!

Book your fishing excursion today for an incredible journey through this distinctive coastal environment. Captain Mark is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience you'll remember and share for years to come.
