About Your Guide

Captain Rodney leads the excursions for his family-owned and operated charter service based in Freeport, Texas. With extensive knowledge of both nearshore and offshore Gulf waters, Captain Rodney is committed to ensuring you enjoy an exciting and memorable day on the water. Licensed by the Coast Guard since the age of 18, he holds a 50-ton master’s license, a Texas saltwater guides license, all necessary National Marine Fisheries permits, and full insurance coverage.

Growing up on Mouse Island, Maine, alongside his grandfather Lou, Rodney’s passion for boating and fishing began early. At just 10 years old, he started working on charter boats, laying the foundation for his deep connection to the sea. Throughout your trip, Captain Rodney is eager to share effective fishing techniques tailored to your goals, such as light tackle fishing, bottom fishing, trolling, and drift fishing. Depending on the season and conditions, you could be chasing targets like Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Cobia, Shark, Jack Crevalle, Red Snapper, Redfish, Black Drum, and more.

All trips come fully equipped with rods, reels, tackle, live bait, and lures, along with cleaning and filleting services for your catch at the conclusion of your outing. Captain Rodney is approachable, knowledgeable, and engaging, making him a favorite among anglers.

Many guests have praised Captain Rodney for his attentiveness and expertise. At the start of the trip, he inquires about your fishing objectives to tailor the experience accordingly. After quickly reaching our Red Snapper limit, we still had plenty of time, so Rodney offered to either fill the ice chest or pursue bigger game fish. Opting for the latter, we ventured farther offshore in search of exciting catches. He skillfully identified floating grass patches where we trolled for Mahi Mahi—landing one and nearly hooking a second. Later, we switched tactics and aimed for tuna, unexpectedly hooking a Wahoo that provided an exhilarating fight. The trolling continued to yield more Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna until approaching storms prompted our return. Beyond the fantastic catch, what made the trip exceptional was Captain Rodney’s dedication to crafting a personalized and unforgettable adventure.

Others have echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Rodney’s role as both a captain and host. For instance, a 12-hour journey chasing Blackfin Tuna and grouper had mixed success, but we dominated the Red Snapper fishing with impressive catches. The day culminated in a thrilling fight with a 7-foot, 400-pound bull shark caught by my son, with Captain Rodney’s assistance ensuring it was successfully landed despite cutting the return trip short. Experiences like these reaffirm our intention to book future trips with him.

Rodney has also impressed anglers with his professionalism and ability to locate a variety of fish. Despite losing a Marlin after a long battle, the excitement and quality of the fishing made the outing memorable and something we eagerly anticipate repeating. Comfortable amenities onboard, such as bean bags for resting, complement his expert knowledge of the waters.

Families especially appreciate the welcoming atmosphere. One guest shared how their boys thoroughly enjoyed the day’s fishing, thanks to Captain Rodney’s warm hospitality. Another group praised Rodney and his first mate Ethan for their friendliness, professionalism, and willingness to move to better spots when the initial catch was undersized—resulting in catching larger fish and sharks. This has the potential to become an annual tradition for them.

The crew's dedication is evident, from swiftly getting fish on board to re-baiting hooks efficiently. Many customers have enthusiastically shared they will book again. Whether it’s returning groups or first-timers, Captain Rodney and his team consistently provide a rewarding fishing experience.

On subsequent trips with Captain Mitchell and deckhand Jerry, many have found exceptional service combined with vast fishing knowledge, fun, and comfort. Even in moments of feeling unwell, the crew went above and beyond to accommodate guests. Captain Marshall and Ethan have similarly been praised for their ability to locate fish and provide an enjoyable day on the water.

Overall, these charters stand out for their professionalism, friendliness, and relentless efforts to maximize each guest's fishing success. Visitors repeatedly commend the crew’s hard work and assure they will return whenever back in the area.
