Nate is your go-to expert for fly fishing throughout Montana. Along with his dedicated team, he fishes for Rainbow and Brown Trout across nearly every corner of the state and even beyond. Nate and his crew operate out of several Montana locations including Bozeman, West Yellowstone, Ennis, Helena, Cascade, Three Forks, and Cameron. They guide anglers on renowned rivers such as the Madison, Missouri, Yellowstone, Gallatin, Jefferson, Ruby, Firehole, Gibbon, Lamar, and Bighorn. In addition, they offer guided fly fishing adventures on lakes like Holter, Hebgen, and Ennis as well as on Soda Butte and Slough Creek. What sets them apart is their access to the iconic fishing spots within Yellowstone National Park.
Nate's family roots in Montana go way back to the late 1800s when his great-great-grandfather settled in Billings after working as a cook on a cattle drive. Although fishing ran in his veins, Nate didn’t pick up a fly rod until the age of 13—that's when his passion for the sport truly began. He spent much of his youth exploring rivers like the Bighorn, Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Boulder. While attending Montana State University, Nate started guiding in 1999, and over two decades later, he continues to lead and mentor aspiring anglers and guides alike.
Nate treasures the opportunity to guide people of all ages and backgrounds—from young children to seniors, individuals with disabilities or terminal illnesses, families, and large groups. He firmly believes in teaching essential fly fishing skills to ensure every client leaves with unforgettable memories. Living in Bozeman as a single dad, Nate enjoys spending time on the water with his two daughters, Emily and Elizabeth, and is eager to share his expertise with you, your family, and friends.
To book your next fly fishing adventure, simply provide the date, group size, trip length, and preferred start time. Prepare for an exceptional day on the water with Nate and his team!
One memorable trip was with Nate’s guide Patrick, who made the experience enjoyable especially for beginners. Patrick’s expertise on the Madison River led to catching several Rainbow and Brown Trout, as well as whitefish. Even without catching fish, the trip’s atmosphere was rewarding thanks to Patrick’s friendly guidance and knowledge.
For those dreaming of drifting the Yellowstone River, the opportunity came true on a bright morning meeting guide Nathan at 8:00 a.m. Although relatively new to fly fishing, Nathan’s 35 years of experience made the day both educational and fun. They mainly used grasshopper imitations on the surface, with smaller flies trailing behind, and witnessed fascinating fish reactions from aggressive strikes to subtle looks. Despite some challenging moments perfecting hook setting techniques, the beginners succeeded in landing several small rainbows.
Midway through the day, Nathan switched tactics to a nymph rig with an indicator to help ensure success for all participants. Patience was key as everyone tangled lines and learned new casting methods, but Nathan’s steady professionalism and easygoing personality kept spirits high. The day was marked by consistent, if not rapid, fishing success and plenty of laughs.
Despite encountering quite a bit of river traffic common on weekends, Nathan managed the drift boat safely and efficiently. The chance to stand and cast from the boat’s leaning post was a highlight for some. Montana’s abundant public fishing access impressed many, and Nathan’s friendly demeanor helped keep the day enjoyable even when other anglers made navigation tricky.
With experience guiding on numerous Montana rivers, including the Yellowstone and Madison, Nate ensures every trip is organized professionally with clear communication before, during, and after the outing. Customers have consistently praised the skill and dedication of Nate’s guides, noting their adaptability, hard work, and positive attitudes regardless of conditions.

From beginners catching their first rainbow trout to seasoned fishermen eager for new challenges, the guides work tirelessly to create memorable days on the water.

Step into the waters of Yellowstone National Park alongside your expert guide and prepare for an exhilarating day of fishing in one of the most renowned locations for fly-fishing. This adventure takes you wading into the Yellowstone River within the park’s boundaries, where you’ll target the prized Yellowstone Cutthroat trout.
As the longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 states, the Yellowstone River is primarily fished by drift or jet boats once outside the park due to its expansive size. However, within Yellowstone National Park, wade fishing is the preferred method. The fishing season here generally begins later than in other tailwater rivers like the Madison, Bighorn, and Missouri. Nate, an experienced guide, highly recommends every angler to experience the breathtaking scenery and excellent trout fishing this river offers at least once. The river runs for several miles through the park, providing numerous fishing opportunities. Please note this trip requires a minimum commitment of two full days.
During these all-day excursions, your guide will lead you into the river through one of Yellowstone Park’s access points. Along the way, you’ll receive professional fly-fishing guidance and plenty of chances to cast your line. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced angler, your guide is dedicated to helping you succeed and enjoy a rewarding fishing experience.
No matter where you are staying—whether in Bozeman, Ennis, Cameron, Helena, Livingston, West Yellowstone, or Fort Smith, Montana—arrangements can be made for your guide to pick you up at your lodging, campsite, or even the airport. If your accommodations are somewhat remote, simply coordinate a convenient meeting place and prepare for your time on the water.
Your guide will supply all the necessary fishing gear, including rods, reels, flies, and tippet, along with a delicious lunch to keep you fueled throughout the day. If you require waders and wading boots, these can be rented at an additional cost—just let your guide know in advance when booking. Remember, a special Yellowstone National Park fishing license is required (no state license needed), along with a $20 park entrance fee. It’s also wise to bring a hat, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and a rain jacket to ensure a comfortable trip.
Enjoy an unforgettable day immersed in nature’s beauty, guided by experts who are passionate about making your Yellowstone fishing experience exceptional.
