Captain Ivan is a well-known fishing guide who divides his time between Tampa, Florida and the Tri-Cities region of Washington State. Boasting more than two decades of fishing experience in the rivers and lakes of the Pacific Northwest, he offers some of the best guided fishing trips in the Tri-Cities area. Whether you're a beginner or an expert angler, sailing with Captain Ivan guarantees a fishing adventure you'll remember.
This review is focused on Ivan’s guide, not Ivan himself. He is a friendly young man, and the boat was comfortable. The weather conditions were ideal, and the fishing spot chosen was excellent. However, we only caught a single small walleye measuring about 12 inches. We spent the night trolling with plugs—a method I’m not particularly fond of. The guide brought along a coworker, but there wasn't much variation in our fishing tactics to improve the catch rate. Both the guide and his companion were pleasant company though. I was a bit disappointed they didn’t experiment with different techniques. It’s possible that the absence of moonlight had an impact on the fishing success, so even a change in strategy might not have made a difference. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos to share from this trip. Despite the limited catch, we had an incredible time overall! Ivan is knowledgeable, approachable, and very helpful. This was our second excursion with Flatout, and I can’t imagine choosing another guide service. Many thanks!

If you're an angler seeking an exciting challenge and eager to target some of the Northwest’s most thrilling species, this trip is perfect for you! This isn’t your typical trout outing; instead, you'll pursue Walleye, a tasty fish native to the Upper Midwest, along with Sturgeon, North America’s largest freshwater fish, and Shad, renowned for their incredible acrobatics and energetic fights. These species offer both exhilarating catches and delicious table fare.
Captain Ivan, a seasoned expert familiar with these waters, will expertly navigate you to prime fishing locations. Depending on the species, weather, and water conditions, you’ll use an assortment of lures and bait. When a fish bites, get ready for an unforgettable battle! Each species offers a unique experience: Sturgeon can reach six feet in length and weigh over 200 pounds, often making powerful runs that can pull line off your reel, while Shad have earned the nickname “freshwater tarpon” due to their spectacular jumps and flips.
Your fishing adventure takes place aboard Captain Ivan’s 24-foot Alumaweld boat, powered by a 90-HP Mercury engine for smooth travel to the best spots. The boat is equipped with a live well for keeping bait fresh and a range of electronics to help locate fish. Captain Ivan provides all the necessary gear, including rods, reels, and tackle—just remember to bring sunscreen, a Washington fishing license, and a hat for a comfortable day on the water.
