If you're in search of a skilled fishing guide in North Texas, Captain Greg is the perfect choice. With extensive experience exploring the rivers and lakes of the region, he is eager to share his expertise with anglers at all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned fisherman, Captain Greg is dedicated to making your outing on the water an unforgettable adventure.
Choose your fishing adventure, whether it's drifting down the Brazos River or wading through the limestone waters of the Paluxy River, as you pursue the prized Bass species native to North Texas. In addition to Largemouth Bass, your line could be baited for Spotted Bass, Sunfish, Carp, Bluegill, White Bass, and many other species.
Having grown up fishing throughout Texas, Captain Greg has been passionate about angling since childhood. He began fly fishing exclusively in 1998, bringing decades of valuable experience to anglers of all backgrounds. His fishing history includes targeting Stripers in the Red River below Lake Texoma and chasing Redfish in the Lower Laguna Madre, though North Texas streams and lakes remain his primary focus.
To deepen his fly fishing skills, Captain Greg started tying his own flies in 2004, with many of the flies he uses crafted by his own hands. He thrives on the excitement of watching clients catch fish using his personally tied flies and has had the privilege of fishing alongside industry legends like Bob Clouser.
Captain Greg began guiding in 2012 and has amassed considerable industry knowledge through various roles in the fly fishing community. He served on the Auction Committee for the Fort Worth Fly Fishers between 2007 and 2008, and later held the position of President of the San Gabriel Fly Fishers in Georgetown, TX from 2010 to 2012. Before fully focusing on guiding, he worked at Sportsman's Finest in Austin, TX from 2010 until 2019, where he spent seven years as the Fly Fishing Manager.
While leading trips on North Texas waterways for Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, White Bass, and more, Captain Greg also works as a Manufacturing Sales Representative for companies in the fly fishing and outdoor industries. During this 4 to 8-hour Walk & Wade adventure, Greg will guide you along the Brazos River or a smaller tributary like the Paluxy River. Throughout the trip, he will share his expert fly fishing knowledge as you pursue a variety of species, including Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, White Bass, and several types of Sunfish. Additionally, you may encounter Carp, Smallmouth Buffalo, Freshwater Drum, and Gar.
Whether you’re a novice or an experienced angler, Greg is dedicated to ensuring your day on the water is unforgettable. From wading the scenic Brazos to exploring the “hill country-like” Paluxy River, he promises a memorable Texas-sized fly-fishing adventure filled with excitement and fun.
Greg provides all essentials such as flies, leaders, tippet, and can supply fly rods and reels upon request (please arrange in advance). You’ll also enjoy refreshments and snacks, with lunch included on full-day trips. The only things you need to bring are a valid Texas freshwater fishing license and breathable waders. It’s also wise to pack polarized sunglasses, a hat, rain gear, season-appropriate clothing, and sunscreen. Feel free to bring your own fly rod and reel if you prefer.
For smaller waters like the Paluxy River, Greg suggests using a 4-6 weight fly rod. On the Brazos River, a 6-8 weight rod is ideal. Larger flies, which can attract bigger fish, require heavier lines. These heavier rods also make handling and landing big fish easier.
Regarding fly lines, Greg recommends floating, weight-forward, and short taper lines for most situations. However, on the Brazos, intermediate sink tips, sink tips, or fully sinking lines may be necessary at times.
Prepare for an enjoyable day on the water filled with great fishing and expert guidance from Greg!
