If you’re seeking an expert fishing guide in North Texas, look no further than Captain Greg. With extensive experience navigating the rivers and lakes across the region, Captain Greg is eager to share his expertise and help you make the most of your time on the water. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned angler, Captain Greg is dedicated to transforming your outing into an unforgettable fishing adventure. From drifting the Brazos River to wading in the limestone waters of the Paluxy River, join Captain Greg as you pursue the prized Bass of North Texas.
You’ll have the chance to target a variety of species including Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Sunfish, Carp, Bluegill, White Bass, and more. Growing up fishing throughout Texas, Captain Greg’s passion for angling began as soon as he could hold a rod. He transitioned exclusively to fly fishing in 1998, bringing a rich background to every guided trip. His vast knowledge extends beyond North Texas, including experiences chasing Stripers on the Red River below Lake Texoma and pursuing Redfish in the Lower Laguna Madre. Still, his heart remains with the streams and lakes of North Texas.
Captain Greg expanded his skills by mastering the art of Fly Tying in 2004, crafting many of the flies he expertly employs during trips. Watching clients land fish on his own tied flies is a particular joy, and he’s even had the privilege of fishing alongside renowned anglers like Bob Clouser. Since starting his guiding career in 2012, Captain Greg has also gained valuable experience working within the fly fishing community. He contributed to the Fort Worth Fly Fishers’ Auction Committee from 2007-2008 and served as President of the San Gabriel Fly Fishers in Georgetown, TX from 2010 to 2012.
Before fully dedicating himself to guiding, Captain Greg worked at Sportsman’s Finest in Austin from 2010 to 2019, spending the last seven years as the Fly Fishing Manager. While leading trips for Largemouth, Spotted, and White Bass across North Texas waters, he also professionally represents manufacturers in the Fly Fishing and Outdoor industries as a Sales Representative. Join Greg for a thrilling fly-fishing excursion on some of Texas’s most picturesque rivers and lakes!
This fly-fishing adventure lasts between 4 to 8 hours, where Greg will take you on a float down the Brazos River, a smaller tributary like the Paluxy River, or one of the many local lakes. Along the way, he’ll share his expert fly-fishing techniques as you pursue a variety of fish species, including Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, White Bass, and several Sunfish species. You might also encounter Carp, Smallmouth Buffalo, Freshwater Drum, and Gar.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, Greg is dedicated to ensuring your time on the water is unforgettable. Choose from floating the scenic Brazos River, wading in the “hill country-like” Paluxy River, or exploring one of the many stunning lakes in the region. Greg will guide you through a fun-filled, Texas-sized fly-fishing experience you’ll cherish forever.
Depending on current conditions and prime fishing spots, Greg selects the ideal vessel for your trip. You’ll either ride in a custom 16½-foot Hog Island Skiff powered by a jet motor or a 14-foot Aire Raft outfitted with an Outcast fishing system. Both boats provide excellent stability and comfort, and they are perfect for navigating shallow waters.
Greg supplies all essential fishing gear, including flies, leaders, tippet, and fly rods and reels upon request (please arrange these ahead of time). Drinks, snacks, and expert photography to capture your fishing memories are also included. Full-day trips include a catered lunch. Just bring a valid Texas freshwater fishing license, along with polarized sunglasses, a hat, weather-appropriate clothing, rain gear, and sunscreen. You are also welcome to bring your own fly rod and reel.
For wading trips on smaller waters like the Paluxy River, Greg suggests using a 4-6 weight fly rod. For the Brazos River or lake outings, he prefers a 6-8 weight rod, since larger flies suitable for bigger fish require a heavier fly line. These heavier rods make it easier to control and land larger catches.
When it comes to fly lines, Greg recommends floating, weight-forward, and shorter-taper designs. In certain parts of the Brazos River and some lakes, intermediate sink, sink-tip, or full sinking lines may work best for your fishing success.
Get ready for an enjoyable day on the water with Greg and make some fantastic catches!
