His enthusiasm for fishing along the Gulf Coast stems from countless weekends and summer trips to Rockport, Texas. It was there, starting at the age of four, that he began honing his angling skills with his father, navigating the San Antonio Bay system down to Lower Laguna Madre.
After earning his degree from Southwest Texas University, James secured his Captain’s license with the goal of sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for fishing with others. Beyond traditional fishing methods, James has dedicated 15 years to mastering fly fishing. He has also spent time in the Bahamas refining his fly-casting techniques, which he eagerly imparts to clients of all skill levels.
Following seven years as a guide with BayFlats Lodge, James took the exciting step of launching his own guiding service. Known for his laid-back and approachable demeanor, he excels at introducing beginners to fishing and hunting, ensuring that every outing is both enjoyable and memorable. He is also flexible with meeting locations to accommodate clients’ needs.

You can cancel at no cost up to five days prior to your adventure and have the amount credited back to your account. If you cancel within five days of the trip, your deposit will be retained by the guide. Cancellations on the day of the trip or failure to show up will result in a charge of the full trip amount to your card.
All fishing equipment will be supplied. Fish cleaning and packaging services are included as well. Clients should bring their fishing license along with any food or beverages they wish to have. An ice chest and water will be available on the boat.

With a guiding career that began in 2005, Capt. James brings lifelong familiarity with the Port Aransas and Rockport fishing grounds. Clients can expect to target species such as Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum using a variety of effective fishing methods. He operates a 25-foot Majek Illusion, and children are warmly welcomed aboard to share in the fishing experience.
