About Your Guide

Captain Drew, based in Chatham, Massachusetts, is an approachable and experienced guide who excels at introducing you and your group to the rich fishing opportunities of Cape Cod. This region is renowned for its exceptional variety, including outstanding Bluefin Tuna, saltwater Striped Bass (commonly called "Stripers"), Rockfish, Fluke, and Bluefish, all thriving in these waters. Beyond fishing, your adventure may also include sightings of majestic marine wildlife such as Humpback, Baleen, Finback, Minke, and Right Whales, as well as Great White Sharks, Seals, Osprey, and other fascinating creatures that Captain Drew eagerly points out during the excursion.

Growing up spending every summer on Cape Cod, Captain Drew developed a deep love for boating and fishing early on. Whether it's fishing, surfing, clamming, or simply cruising, he's always on the water. His enthusiasm for sharing knowledge about the local fishery is infectious, and he welcomes both seasoned anglers and beginners with open arms. As he often says, "Every time you leave the harbor, there’s a new experience waiting out there, and above all, it’s about enjoying yourself!"

Captain Drew’s fishing experience extends worldwide, with adventures in Vermont, Florida, Wyoming, New Zealand, and Hawaii. This extensive background enhances the variety of trips he offers on Cape Cod. You can book an offshore trip targeting Bluefin Tuna one day, go nearshore for lively Striper fishing the next, and finish with drifting or wading on the inshore flats to catch eager Stripers.

He divides his time between Chatham and northern Vermont, where he lives with his wife Erika, daughter Isla, sons Zane and Reid, and their beloved dogs, Bodie and Riggs.

One recent trip featured Captain Drew taking a group of family members out for a four-hour excursion, demonstrating remarkable expertise, professionalism, and enthusiasm. Their efforts quickly paid off, resulting in over 15 fish caught, several of which were brought home for a fresh dinner. The party is already planning to return next year!

Another exciting outing with Drew and first mate Dawson involved chasing Bluefin Tuna using artificial lures off the Cape. The tuna were actively feeding beneath birds, creating intense action. Although luck was not on their side that day, the team’s knowledge of local waters and top-notch equipment made it an incredible experience. They’re eager to get back out on the water soon to test their skills again.

Choose between a half-day or full-day adventure as Captain Drew takes you out into the pristine Cape Cod inshore waters. Your primary fishing locations will include the Monomoy flats and tidal creeks, where you’ll wade and cast with fly rods. Other fishing spots may include Pleasant Bay, Brewster flats, Barnstable Harbor, and the grass flats along the south side of Cape Cod. Here, the main targets are Bonito and Striped Bass, and you’ll engage in sight-casting to spot fish and cast precisely for the best chances at these striking catches.

Whether you’re new to fly fishing or have years of experience, Captain Drew provides expert guidance to help you improve your skills and increase your chances of landing impressive fish. These fly fishing excursions accommodate up to two passengers, but if you prefer spin fishing from the boat, up to three anglers can join the trip.

Your fishing vessel will be a 20-foot Jones Brothers Cape Fisherman center console, ideal for up to three anglers. Powered by a 115 HP Yamaha engine with a jack plate, this boat easily navigates the shallow waters of Monomoy and Cape Cod Bay as well as open water areas. It features front and rear casting decks and a poling platform, making it easy to stealthily approach fish for sight-casting. Plus, with a low freeboard and boarding ladder, you can comfortably step out and wade in prime sandbar locations.

You will need to bring your own fly fishing equipment for the trip. Captain Drew suggests using an 8-10 weight rod, with intermediate, sink tip, or full-sink lines along with 25 lb leader material and 15 lb fluorocarbon tippet. Essential gear includes waders, polarized sunglasses, and a hat. Flies that typically produce bites on this trip are Deceivers, Clousers, Sandeels, juvenile baitfish patterns, and crab imitations.
