About Your Guide

Captain Joe was born and raised in Corpus Christi, where he enjoyed spending summers fishing with his grandparents around Port Aransas. In the mid-1990s, he began his career in commercial fishing, targeting species such as flounder, drum, and sheepshead. He gained hands-on experience working in a fish house, where he handled cutting and delivering fish, shrimp, crabs, and other seafood to various restaurants across the Coastal Bend.

Today, Captain Joe is a dedicated full-time flounder guide with an in-depth understanding of the local waters, including the behaviors and migration patterns of flounder. He actively guides fishing trips throughout the year, except for November when gigging is prohibited. As a native of the Coastal Bend, Captain Joe has explored every bay in the region and possesses an extensive knowledge of the bay system, which is vital for his nighttime gigging tours where visibility is limited.

His strong connection to the bays and flats ensures that you'll have a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. With over two decades of guiding gigging trips in the Corpus Christi area, Captain Joe has the expertise to place you right in the heart of the fishing action. He also offers flexibility with your trip’s starting location to suit your needs.

Known for being friendly, respectful, and highly knowledgeable about flounder gigging, Captain Joe provides an exceptional guide experience. Many guests have enjoyed memorable outings, caught their limits, and look forward to recommending him and hiring his services again.

Have you ever wanted to try flounder gigging, a traditional fishing method used by anglers of the past? If you’re eager to experience the excitement of targeting and catching your own flounder, Captain Joe’s Flounder Gigging Trips are perfect for both seasoned anglers and first-timers alike.

On this trip, you’ll receive your own gig and thorough instruction to ensure you understand every aspect of this unique fishing adventure. You can choose to head out in the morning, at midday, or during the night—Captain Joe guarantees a memorable experience gigging flounder along the beautiful Coastal Bend.

Captain Joe’s vessel is among the largest and safest specialized flounder boats available. Measuring 26 feet long and 100 inches wide, it offers excellent stability and can navigate shallow waters smoothly. Underwater and above-water LED lighting illuminate the fishing area, enhancing visibility. Each trip accommodates up to 4 guests. Children aged 14 and older may actively participate in gigging, while younger children may join as passengers but cannot gig.

All necessary gigging gear is provided on board by Captain Joe. If you plan to bring your own equipment, please notify the captain beforehand. After the trip, Captain Joe will clean and bag your catch, so be sure to have an ice chest ready in your vehicle for transporting your fish home.

For comfort and safety, Captain Joe suggests wearing closed-toe shoes, bringing insect repellent, snacks, beverages, and a small cooler. He also advises dressing appropriately for cooler weather, as flounder gigging during fall and winter months can be chilly.

Trips typically depart from one of two locations:

  • Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass
  • Near the Ferry Landing in Port Aransas

Safety is Captain Joe’s top priority. Both GPS and cell phones are used onboard to ensure a secure and enjoyable outing for everyone involved.
