You can cancel free of charge if you do so at least 3 days prior to your scheduled trip, and the amount will be credited back to your account. If you cancel within 3 days of the trip, your deposit will be retained by the guide. Any cancellations made on the day of the trip or failure to show up will result in a charge of the full trip amount to your payment method.
Be sure to dress appropriately for the season, especially since mornings on the water can be surprisingly chilly. Don’t overlook how cold it might get early in the day. Check the hourly weather forecast before your trip to monitor temperature changes throughout. If your visit to Austin is between October and March, bring some warm winter clothing just in case. Although rare, temperatures can sometimes drop into the 30s during October and March.
Pack rain gear if the forecast predicts showers, and don’t forget sunglasses—polarized lenses are ideal when possible. It’s also wise to bring snacks or food, a camera, sunscreen, and insect repellent. I will supply plenty of cold bottled water for everyone. All necessary equipment is included in the rate.
This fishing trip includes two back-to-back 8-hour days on O.H. Ivie Lake, ideal for 1-2 passengers. All necessary tackle is provided and included in the cost, but meals and accommodations are not. While lodging is not offered directly, recommendations for nearby places to stay are available.
O.H. Ivie Lake is situated along the Colorado and Concho Rivers, spanning Concho, Coleman, and Runnels counties, approximately 55 miles east of San Angelo. Covering a surface area of 19,149 acres, the lake reaches depths up to 119 feet. Water levels typically fluctuate between 6 to 10 feet annually. As one of Texas’s newer reservoirs, impounded in 1990, it offers a classic Texas lake experience with abundant flooded brush and timber alongside a variety of aquatic plants. The lake’s water clarity varies: it is usually clear on the main lake and Concho arm, but somewhat murkier in the Colorado arm.
The landscape is dominated by standing timber, leftover from when the area was flooded without clearing trees and brush, resulting in thousands of acres of natural cover. Native aquatic vegetation and hydrilla also grow throughout the lake. Structural features mainly consist of rocky areas on the main body of the lake, while the river arms primarily have mud flats.
In recent years, O.H. Ivie has gained a reputation as a top destination for anglers seeking bass over 13 pounds, especially during winter—the season when these trips are offered. It’s important to note that such large catches are typically made by highly skilled, dedicated anglers spending multiple days pursuing that elusive giant. Winter fishing can be challenging, and massive bass are not caught in large numbers.
For those looking to enjoy traditional bass fishing techniques, this lake still provides excellent opportunities. While landing a 13-plus-pound bass is less likely, anglers can expect to catch numerous bass, including impressive specimens weighing between 8 and 11 pounds, making for a rewarding and enjoyable fishing experience.
