Ryan's passion for the outdoors began at an early age, starting with fishing around the age of three. Growing up in south and central Texas, he spent countless hours exploring local lakes and rivers, teaching himself everything he could about bass and catfish fishing. During his college years, Ryan took on the role of manager at an outdoor recreation store, which introduced him to kayaking and fly fishing. Today, he continues to pursue fly fishing, targeting bass, various warm water species, and trout, with a recent special focus on fly fishing for common carp.
In 2019, Ryan earned the title of Texas Carp King at the Texas Fly Carpers United Tournament by reeling in a total of 448.5 inches of carp across the three rounds. After many years spent fly fishing the rivers of central Texas and the Texas coastline, fishing has truly become a way of life for him. Ryan possesses extensive knowledge beyond just fishing techniques; he is also well-versed in the history and geology of the region, which adds to his deep appreciation for the unique outdoors of central Texas.
As a guide, Ryan offers flexibility on start locations and provides expert instruction for both beginners and experienced anglers. Several clients have praised his skills and warm personality, sharing that he guided them through the essentials of fly fishing and helped them enjoy successful outings filled with catching trout and other species. Many have described their trips as wonderful experiences thanks to Ryan’s expertise and local insight. Whether it’s your first time fly fishing or you’re looking to explore hidden spots along the river, Ryan’s guidance comes highly recommended by those who have fished with him, making each trip both memorable and rewarding.

Dress appropriately for the weather. While waders are optional, they can provide extra insulation in colder conditions. Polarized sunglasses are highly recommended. Be sure to wear suitable footwear for walking along riverside banks, as you'll encounter rocks and gravel.
The Canyon Lake Dam, along with the cold water discharged from the reservoir, signifies the beginning of the lower Guadalupe River, home to an approximately 16-mile stretch of premier trophy trout habitat. This section is regularly stocked from late fall through late winter by both Texas Parks and Wildlife and Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited. Notably, it represents the southernmost trout fishery in the United States and ranks among the top 100 trout fisheries nationwide. Unlike many other stocked rivers, the Guadalupe is renowned for its plentiful trophy-sized trout, often measuring between 15 and 20+ inches.
We offer both half-day and full-day float trips targeting this exceptional river. Our focus is on the sections downstream from the lake, particularly near the town of New Braunfels along River Road. Half-day excursions last between 4 to 5 hours, while full-day trips extend up to 8 hours and include lunch. Water and snacks are provided on all trips for your convenience.
During the trip, you will float several miles of the river, taking in the scenic views and observing the diverse wildlife native to the area. You’ll navigate the river in a comfortable inflatable drift boat equipped with the latest NRS fishing frame. The setup features two padded swivel seats for anglers, alongside standing platforms and lean bars for stability. The boat accommodates two anglers plus a guide who rows the craft downstream. Our primary target species is rainbow trout, using 5-weight fly rods to drift flies beneath a strike indicator in the current.
With nearly ten years of guiding experience in the Texas Hill Country, I bring a lifelong passion for fishing and exploring limestone waterways. Growing up, I often fished the area thanks to my uncle’s property on the upper Guadalupe River for over 25 years. I also attended Texas State University, chosen partly because of the San Marcos River that flows through its campus. I am enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge and teaching anglers of all experience levels, welcoming everyone eager to learn the art of fly fishing.
