About Your Guide

Raised in a ranching family rooted in the Victoria, Texas region since the 1870s, Captain James developed a strong connection to the outdoors and its wildlife early in life. His love for Gulf Coast fishing began with countless weekends and summers spent in Rockport, Texas, where he started honing his fishing skills at the young age of four alongside his father, exploring the San Antonio Bay system and extending down to Lower Laguna Madre.

After completing his studies at Southwest Texas University, James earned his Captain’s license, enabling him to share his extensive knowledge and passion for fishing with others. In addition to traditional fishing methods, James has been dedicated to fly fishing for over 15 years, even traveling to the Bahamas to learn advanced fly casting techniques, which he gladly imparts to clients of all skill levels.

Following seven years of experience working as a guide for BayFlats Lodge, James took the initiative to launch his own guiding service. Known for his relaxed and friendly approach, he excels at teaching newcomers, making both fishing and hunting excursions enjoyable and rewarding experiences. He also offers flexibility with starting locations to best suit your needs.

Many clients highlight the exceptional experience they’ve had with James. Even in challenging conditions, he remains persistent and adaptive, ensuring a fruitful outing. Guests appreciate his consistent efforts, knowledge, and approachable nature, often planning to return for future trips.

James’s professionalism and thorough guidance have impressed clients repeatedly. Whether it’s putting anglers on the fish during ideal conditions or steadily working to find bites on slower days, he maintains a positive and engaging atmosphere throughout the trip.
