My passion for fly fishing began in the trout-filled streams of the Rocky Mountains, primarily in Colorado. While that region was fantastic for developing my fishing techniques, I always felt drawn to the Pacific Northwest. This led me to pursue my education at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where I have been enjoying fishing ever since. Although I’ve had the chance to fish in various locations worldwide, the Willamette Valley and the McKenzie River hold a special place in my heart. My main focus is on salmon, steelhead, and trout found in Oregon's rivers and lakes, but I also enjoy crabbing, ocean fishing, and mushroom foraging. I am flexible regarding your preferred starting point for guided trips. My son and I shared an amazing day on the water with Matt as our guide. Matt is friendly, dedicated, and has excellent knowledge of Oregon's coastal rivers. I highly recommend his services.
You can cancel without any charges up to 14 days prior to your scheduled trip, and the amount will be credited back to your account. If you cancel less than 14 days before the trip, your deposit will be non-refundable and paid to the guide. Cancellations made on the day of the trip or failure to show up will incur a full charge to your payment method for the total trip cost.
We provide all the fishing equipment, but we usually advise bringing multiple layers of clothing, including a raincoat, due to the frequently unpredictable weather conditions.
This trip offers a chance to explore the best of Oregon’s fishing and natural landscapes! Depending on the season, we target steelhead and salmon across various waterways in the Willamette Valley and along the Oregon Coast. While we usually fish using spin rods or bait-casting gear, there are occasions when we use fly rods as well. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to seasoned anglers.
Typically, I’ll meet you at the takeout spot where you can leave your car, then we’ll head together to the put-in location to launch the boat. Our float trips range from 3 to 10 miles, depending on the current fishing conditions and water levels. For full-day excursions, I provide lunch, and on both full-day and half-day trips, refreshments are included.
