Having spent the majority of my life in South Florida, I feel most at ease among the mangroves and grass flats that serve as my workspace. As a skiff guide, there's nothing I enjoy more than casting a fly. Since 2002, I have been dedicated to teaching both fly fishing and light tackle angling. I hold traditional values and firmly believe that fishing should always be an enjoyable experience. My true passion lies in instructing beginners in saltwater fly fishing, making the learning process of casting both fun and confidence-building.
Ultimately, each outing is tailored to my guests. The day on the water can vary widely due to weather conditions, tides, and each angler’s skill level. Fly fishing is definitely one of the fastest growing forms of our sport. The front of a skiff offers an excellent position to cast, with ample room for a backcast and an elevated platform providing a strategic vantage point. The collaboration between the bow platform and the poling position helps create a rewarding fishing experience.
Your guide can accommodate flexible starting points based on your preferences. Many have found the experience to exceed expectations while running smoothly throughout. You can cancel free of charge up to 7 days prior to your scheduled trip and get a credit applied to your account. If you cancel within 7 days of the trip, your deposit will be non-refundable and given to the guide. Cancellations on the day of the trip or if you do not show up will result in the full trip amount being charged to your payment method.
All necessary gear will be provided. However, we suggest bringing along sunglasses, sunscreen, suitable clothing for the weather, and any additional items you may find useful during the trip.
Gamefish tend to be most active during the early morning hours and during the prime tides, specifically when large volumes of water move rapidly over a short period. This usually occurs about three days before and after both the full and new moon tides. I prefer to begin around 7 a.m., as it’s an ideal time to fish. The two ramps I favor, especially Pineland Marine on Pine Island, put us very close to my preferred fishing spots, resulting in a short boat ride and maximizing our fishing time.
I operate a skiff that accommodates one or two anglers comfortably. Onboard, I always have a cooler stocked with ice and plenty of water. You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks, as there’s ample space in the cooler for your refreshments. The experience of being out in the backcountry, surrounded by its sights and sounds, is truly remarkable. Each day spent here is unique, offering unexpected encounters. This day on the water belongs entirely to you—I don’t schedule multiple trips in one day to ensure a relaxed pace, as factors like weather, tides, and anglers' skill levels can greatly influence the experience.
Every day, I carefully assess conditions to provide the best possible chance to catch fish. For me, the greatest reward is knowing my guests have enjoyed their time out on the water. Teaching is a passion of mine, and I pride myself on being a patient guide. With years of experience, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the uniqueness of this environment. While saltwater fly fishing is my favorite technique, I also bring a couple of spinning rods for those who prefer them or for guests who want to try soft plastics. Often, if you bring a guest new to fly fishing, both anglers can fish simultaneously by working as a team.
We typically chase species such as spotted seatrout, redfish, and snook. However, the waters can also surprise us with jacks, pompano, cobia, small sharks, bluefish, or mackerel. Every day is different, and the variety of fish we may encounter keeps each trip exciting and fresh.
