Captain Joey is far from your typical charter captain. He has spent his entire life fishing the waters around North Carolina, beginning at the young age of four when he landed his first fish at Claytor Lake alongside his dad and grandfather. From that moment, fishing became a passion! At 15, Joey gained his initial offshore experience as a mate on a fishing vessel, hauling in tuna, billfish, bottomfish, and more near the Oregon Inlet. During his free time, he often fished the surf off Hatteras Island with a family friend, targeting drum and Spanish mackerel, while also chasing speckled trout and flounder in the Pamlico Sound. Simply put, if it swims, Captain Joey has likely encountered it.
By 18, Joey was working as a mate on charter boats out of Hatteras Inlet, pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a professional offshore fisherman — a career he has thrived in ever since. Alongside his hands-on experience, Joey holds a degree in aquaculture and agricultural science, ensuring that his expertise is backed by solid academic knowledge. He takes great pride in continuously expanding his understanding of fish, studying everything from their habitats and feeding patterns to their growth and life cycles. Always eager to adopt new methods, Joey learns from fellow anglers and incorporates fresh ideas into his techniques. This adaptability proves that there’s always room for new skills.
Combining a deep appreciation for fishing history with a mastery of modern strategies, Captain Joey guarantees a fishing adventure that is not only thrilling but also educational and enjoyable. He is passionate about sharing his wisdom and experiences with every client, dedicating himself to helping others improve their fishing abilities.
