Ready to elevate your fishing experience? Captain Mike’s nearshore shark and tuna excursions are designed for adventurers and avid anglers eager to challenge some of the ocean’s fiercest creatures. Whether your goal is the powerful Bluefin Tuna or a thrilling battle with hammerhead or mako sharks, this trip ventures beyond the bays into the deep waters off Newport’s beaches and wrecks. You can choose between 6-hour and 8-hour trips, with the option to extend your adventure by the hour when availability allows—giving you every opportunity to make this outing your season’s highlight.
The 6-hour (three-quarter day) trip is ideal for those seeking a robust chance at big-game fishing without the commitment of a full day. Departing from the coast, you’ll quickly reach nearshore hotspots where tuna schools gather and sharks start to patrol. Techniques like trolling, jigging, spinning, and drifting will be used depending on conditions and your target species. Whether you’re running a spread for Bluefin Tuna or dropping bait near deep structures for Thresher and Blue Sharks, Captain Mike’s expertise ensures you land on the best spots and stay hooked on action.
If you prefer more time on the water, the full 8-hour day trip takes you even further into the action. This extended journey allows you to explore multiple sites, adapt strategies as conditions change, and fish from early morning until dusk. The longer time frame increases your chances of hooking magnificent specimens—think of Mako Sharks cutting through the swells or the thrilling sprint of a hooked Skipjack or Bonito tearing line from your reel. Plus, the trip may also yield Black Seabass, Atlantic Mackerel, or even a surprise Striper on the way back, ensuring a high-energy, unforgettable fishing adventure.
Your vessel for this offshore expedition is Captain Mike’s 22-foot Seaswirl walkaround, a sturdy boat built to handle everything from nearshore shark drifts to rapid tuna chases. It comfortably fits four passengers, making it perfect for a close-knit group eager to pursue big fish with confidence and comfort. All necessary gear—including rods, reels, bait, and tackle—is provided, along with bottled water and two ice boxes to keep your catch fresh and beverages chilled.
Be sure to bring your non-spray sunscreen, sunglasses, a jacket for those cooler morning starts, and snacks to stay energized throughout the day. Moderate alcohol consumption is allowed—just avoid glass containers. Your fishing license is included, so all that’s left is your enthusiasm to reel in a trophy catch.
If you’ve dreamed of the thrill of hooking a shark or testing your endurance against a tuna in the stunning waters near Newport, this is the ultimate trip you’ve been waiting for. Secure your spot, and let Captain Mike guide you on this unforgettable battle at sea.
