My name is Captain Jim, and I’m based in Ramrod Key, Florida, nestled in the lower Florida Keys just a short distance from Key West. I've been exploring and fishing these islands for over four decades, transitioning to full-time guiding in 2016. Holding a U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license for 20 years, I am also proud to be part of the Lower Keys Guides Association and recognized as a Blue Star Operator for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. My vessel is a 22-foot center console Panga, powered by a reliable 115hp Suzuki 4-stroke engine.
My expertise lies in light tackle inshore fishing throughout the backcountry of the lower Keys. On these trips, anglers can target a variety of species, including Tarpon, Snapper, Sea Trout, Sharks, Barracuda, among many others. The fishing techniques I use adapt according to the tide, season, and the specific species pursued during the expedition.

One guest shared how their very first cast brought in a stunning tuna that slipped away, but soon after they caught more than they could take home. I enjoy teaching newcomers, helping them adjust their fishing methods—like learning when not to set the hook. I also offer to clean and fillet catches and provide recommendations for local restaurants that will cook your fresh fish; many have loved dining at my personal favorite, Hogfish, known for its welcoming, family-style atmosphere.

You can cancel your booking without any charge if you do so at least 5 days before your scheduled trip, and the amount will be refunded as credit to your account. If you cancel within 5 days prior to the trip, your deposit will be retained by the guide. On the day of the trip, cancellations or failure to show up will result in a full charge to your payment method.
