In 2013, Salt Water Sportsman magazine honored Captain Juan as one of the Top 50 Charter Captains worldwide. He also serves as an IGFA Representative and supports brands like Maui Jim, Bluefin USA, Fish Monkey, and St. Croix Rods as part of their professional staff.
Although we were experienced fishermen, deep-sea fishing in Puerto Rico was new to us. From the start, Juan impressed us with his concise and prompt communication, along with a straightforward yet friendly approach to every question. Midway through our trip, despite no bites and cloudy skies, he remained confident—it was clear he understood the waters better than we did. Soon after, we reeled in our first-ever mahi-mahi, followed by our first marlin. It felt like the ultimate fishing trip after just two catches! Juan Carlos truly shined. His 28 years of expertise were evident as he demonstrated deep knowledge of the fish, the local area, and his equipment. From start to finish, the customer service was outstanding. Our original plan was a 6-hour deep sea fishing trip with Juan Carlos, but due to rough conditions, it was adjusted to a 4-hour reef fishing outing. Despite the change, Captain Juan delivered an unforgettable day. We explored multiple prime spots where my 15-year-old son caught a 5-foot barracuda, a large mackerel, and a massive tarpon. My son had an absolute blast. Thank you, Captain Juan, for an amazing day on the water! We’ll be booking again when we visit Puerto Rico next time!

During these offshore excursions, the primary focus is trolling for Blue and White Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna. While Sailfish can be pursued during certain months, these trips depend heavily on favorable weather conditions and are less predictable to arrange.
If the weather on your scheduled day isn’t ideal, Captain Juan is happy to offer alternative trips. You can head to La Pena reef for some thrilling fishing action and fresh catch for your table, or explore the calmer back bays to chase Tarpon. These alternative outings are available at a discounted price.
All trips meet at the Cangrejos Yacht Club, a private marina conveniently located just 5 minutes from San Juan's international airport and within 5-8 minutes of major hotels and the downtown area.
Every adventure with Captain Juan includes your expert guide, live and prepared dead bait, fishing tackle, bottled water, and sodas. The equipment provided includes premium Shimano gear and St. Croix rods to ensure you’re fully equipped to reel in those trophy fish. You’ll need to bring your own sunglasses, hats or visors, and sunscreen.
Guests are welcome to bring alcoholic beverages, with the only request being they are enjoyed responsibly.
