For an exceptional fly fishing experience on the Chattahoochee River, look no further than Captain Chris. Having launched his charter service in 1994, Captain Chris drew his passion and expertise from years of fly fishing in the Rocky Mountain region. Since then, he and his team have been dedicated to guiding fishermen in pursuit of Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and other native fish species.
The Chattahoochee River’s mild weather and extended spawning season make it an ideal destination for anglers of any proficiency level. Customer satisfaction is Captain Chris’s top priority, and he is committed to sharing his deep knowledge of the local fishery with every guest. Each trip fosters a special atmosphere, whether you’re bonding with family, catching up with friends, or building relationships with colleagues.
Remarkably, the Chattahoochee River is one of just three rivers worldwide that boasts a healthy, self-sustaining trout population located so close to a major urban center. Although Atlanta may not be widely recognized for trout fishing, the city’s extensive greenway network links numerous small communities along the river, featuring vast riparian zones that protect local water resources.
The area offers 48 miles of trout-designated waters and encompasses over 9,000 acres of preserved parklands overseen by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the National Park Service. The river's cool temperatures are maintained by releases from Lake Sidney Lanier, creating a perfect habitat for trout and a variety of wildlife. Visitors often spot white-tailed deer, ospreys, beavers, otters, muskrats, mink, raccoons, and more during their excursions.
Fishing highlights include the impressive state record Brown Trout of over 18 pounds caught by Charlie Ford in the fall of 2003. Rainbow Trout ranging from 16 to 20 inches are also commonly caught, making this a fantastic spot for anglers aiming to catch trophy-sized fish.
